Just type in the box, pick language, be careful it is a literal translation but it is a good starting place to understand documents etc. You can also use it to translate web sites with occasionally hilarious results. Shopping with limited French is not too much of a problem I am fluent in spending money! But I would dearly love to have a bit more communication with the neighbours

May is the bumper month for bank holidays, which is nice as the weather is generally pleasant at that time of year. 2007 has been the exception so far and three out of four of the May holidays it rained. Ah well. Most businesses are closed but there is usually a boulangerie open somewhere in the area (this also applies to Sundays). Some supermarkets will also open for the morning say 9.00 to 12.00 if so there will usually be a note by the till.
There is a bar/tabac/general grocery store in the village of Berneuil which is just south of Bellac on the N147 this is usually open Sundays and Bank holidays. I mention this as till we found it we had some very strange meals made up of odds and ends when we got caught out by the shops being shut.
