French Furniture

Troc's, brocante's, depot vente,s there are many good stores near Limoges selling French furniture second hand and some super bargains and to be honest some right old tat but that is part of the fun. What they do have is typical French furniture that looks good in an old French house.

SECOND HAND FRENCH FURNITURE

The depot-vente system works like this :people take furniture to them, the depot sells the items for them at an agreed price, but for every week or month that the item is unsold the price is reduced by an agreed  percentage. So you can walk in the door and pick up a real bargain. GOOD HUNTING!!. Cheap furniture is always good for self sufficient budget ....Green too !!!!

You will also see signs saying Vide Grenier. This is the French equivalent of a car boot sale. We have found these quite pricy compared to a UK boot sale but you might be better at bargaining than us. All our friends seem to come back with some great buys.

(There is another place next door to this depot)

There are also classified ads in the free papers. You may get these delivered to your property or you can usually pick them up near the checkout at supermarkets, also in the bread shops.

You could also look at our advertisements for second hand items

NEW FRENCH FURNITURE

I rather like the furniture in Conforama it was stylish and quite cheap. I did not like the French kitchens though and think UK kitchens are better, but perhaps you have to go a bit more up-market to find a good kitchen unit in France.

New Furniture and Household Goods

Conforama have a wide range of furniture, lighting and electrical goods like cookers and freezers. They are on the Centre Commercial De Beaubreil you will see this signposted from the A20. There is also a large supermarket on the same site and several smaller shops. ( Behind Conforama there is an Asian supermarket handy for hot spicy ingredients which the French do not seem to care for).

Usually you can order and pay for your furniture in the store then drive round the back to the warehouse to pick it up. There is now a small eco tax on electrical goods that may or may not be displayed as part of the sale price.

For odds and ends EcoGem near Netto in Bellac which sells pans, crockery, curtains, bedding. Not the classiest place but good value and open on Sunday.

Again look out for promotions and sales at all the stores.

Shop Opening Hours

In the main these are Monday to Saturday 9.00am  to 12.00 and 2.00pm till 7.00pm. There are slight variations like 12.30 to 2.30 lunch and some stores are closed Monday (Ecogem).

Very few shops open Sundays although there is usually a boulangerie open Sunday morning.

Another source of second hand goods in France are  Emmaüs a charity organisation
