Or a list of things we are now self sufficient in. This should grow and grow as our garden does. Eggs
In fact our next door neighbours don't need to buy eggs either at the moment. If you only get to eat supermarket eggs even the organic free range eggs. Then you have never tasted just how wonderful an egg can be when it is completely fresh and the chickens have had a varied diet. We even get double yolkers from time to time.
PotatoesWe have just started to dig up the Charlotte potatoes we planted at the end of March. Three potato plants provided us with enough potatoes for three meals (and we eat big portions of potatoes). So that's another thirty-nine meals from the early potatoes then hopefully even more from the late potatoes (Desiree). Unlike bought in spuds they were perfect. No rotten bits in the middle, no strange holes. Again if you are eating supermarket spuds you have not tasted a potato.
Peas & French Beans
June has seen the arrival of pea pods on the Serpette Guilloteau peas. Just one or two pods to start with. Perfect for grazing while working in the garden. By the end of June a portion worth cooking. The Aquillon french beans have been and still are amazingly prolific seven plants survive the high winds and chicken attacks. We seem to be guaranteed a portion of beans every few days. Which seems to be about right for us. When they finish we're hoping the Or d'Rhinn french beans will be ready
Coming soon to our dinner table cucumber, sweet corn, cherries, hazelnuts
